What is the Holy Rosary?
The Holy Rosary is a beautiful prayer that helps us think about the life of Jesus and His mother, Mary. It’s like walking through their story with special beads that guide us in prayer. When we pray the Rosary, we say prayers like the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be. As we say these prayers, we also remember important moments in Jesus' life, called mysteries.
Who is the Blessed Virgin Mary?
The Blessed Virgin Mary is the mother of Jesus. She was chosen by God to be the mother of His Son because she was so faithful and loving. Catholics love and honor Mary because she always said "yes" to God and trusted Him completely. We ask Mary to pray for us, just like we ask our friends and family to pray for us when we need help.
Why is October Special?
October is known as the Month of the Rosary. During this time, families are encouraged to pray the Rosary together to honor Mary. On October 7, we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, a day to remember how powerful praying the Rosary can be.
How Can First Graders and Families Celebrate?
Here are some ways your family can honor Mary and pray the Rosary this October:
- Pray together: Even if you can’t pray the whole Rosary, you can say a few Hail Marys and think about Jesus and Mary’s love for you.
- Make a Rosary craft: Use beads or draw a picture of the Rosary to help you remember the prayers.
- Read about Mary: Look for Bible stories or books that talk about the life of Mary.
